A stunning a sobering account of one of the greatest epics in history. Well written and superbly researched, this book is a masterpiece of historical facts. The author presents them well, in a way that envelops the listener/reader in the terrible dynamic of that time.
Anna Reid spared no gory detail, no criticism of the Soviet regime, and no stone unturned in analyzing the events that unfolded. I especially enjoyed her analysis and account of the dynamics within the German army. While I don’t want to spoil them, I have a totally different perspective on the turning point of WWII.
I recommend this for anyone interested in history. It should be mandatory reading in all High School history classes.
